Day at the farm work bee
Day at the farm
Today my mother, brother and I went to Whole Village Farm for the work bee*. We had the following activities/chores to choose from: Applesauce making, Herb prep, Wood splitting, Firewood creation and moving, Barn chores and making lunch. My brother and I went and helped out in the barn where we had to move straw or hay (can't remember) to a more accessible location near the chicken coop/area in the barn. We also ground grains to create chicken feed. The chickens have been doing quite well this winter. After our work in the barn we headed back to Greenhaven (the home) to have lunch. Lunch was a delicious array of pizzas, salad, chili, basmati rice, apple-goat cheese-spinach cracker things and yummy dessert of apple cake and blueberry muffins. After lunch we all hung around the homestead and talked. When 2pm came we had a choice to do more work or play in the snow. Only my brother, myself, Jon and Smith wanted to go sledding. We didn't get to sled much anyway because the snow was to powdery. We trekked a long way to get to the hills and I was way to much out of shape to get far fast. It was a beautiful day but it was chilly. I wish I owned a pair of snow pants. When we returned most of the guest had left we stayed behind to talk some more and help out in the communal library with some sorting. We didn't leave until around 6pm. Boy was it a busy and fruitfal day. I feel great mentally but exhausted.
*Work Bees are held monthly. All members, friends, guests and anyone interested in spending a day doing a variety of hands on work with genial folks in a gorgeous country setting are welcome to attend. Work Bees start at 10:00 am with a group meeting at Greenhaven, on the Whole Village Farm, and usually wind down at 4 or 5:00 pm. Lunch is provided.

Raw Chocolate Pudding - The Simple Veganista
Ingredients
- 1 ripe avocado, skin and seed removed
- 1 ripe banana, peeled
- 3-4 tablespoon cacao/cocoa powder
- 2 tablespoons pure maple syrup
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon, optional
- 1/2 cup water, + plus more as needed
Blend all ingredients in blender until creamy scrapping down the sides as needed to incorporate everything. Add more water as needed for desired consistency. Taste for flavor and adjust accordingly. Top with a dollop of whipped coconut cream and shaved dark chocolate, cacao nibs or vegan chocolate chips. You can serve at room temp but I find it's best when chilled in the refrigerator for a couple hours. Store leftovers in an air tight container in the refrigerator for up to a couple days.
-This recipe works great and is very delicious!

Nursery Rhyme - 2
Mary Had a Little Lamb
Mary had a little lamb,
little lamb, little lamb,
Mary had a little lamb,
whose fleece was white as snow.
And everywhere that Mary went,
Mary went, Mary went,
and everywhere that Mary went,
the lamb was sure to go.
It followed her to school one day
school one day, school one day,
It followed her to school one day,
which was against the rules.
It made the children laugh and play,
laugh and play, laugh and play,
it made the children laugh and play
to see a lamb at school.
And so the teacher turned it out,
turned it out, turned it out,
And so the teacher turned it out,
but still it lingered near,
And waited patiently about,
patiently about, patiently about,
And waited patiently about
till Mary did appear.
"Why does the lamb love Mary so?"
Love Mary so? Love Mary so?
"Why does the lamb love Mary so,"
the eager children cry.
"Why, Mary loves the lamb, you know."
The lamb, you know, the lamb, you know,
"Why, Mary loves the lamb, you know,"
the teacher did reply.
About this nursery rhyme:
"Mary Had a Little Lamb" is an English language nursery rhyme of nineteenth-century American origin.

Assumptions and Commitments for Relating in Community
Assumptions
1. Everything you know and everything everyone knows is only a model in our heads of how things are.
2. We are co-creating an unknown together; no one is in control of what happens.
3. Not knowing is a necessary and creative state.
4. What we each think and do matters to the whole world.
5. No one is wrong, nothing is wrong, no one is to blame for anything.
6. We can trust ourselves and what we most deeply want.
7. Everyone wants closeness with others and autonomy, and these are compatible.
8. Being fundamentally happy is a worthwhile and attainable goal.
Commitments
1. I commit to seeing absolutely everything that happens as part of a learning process.
2. I commit to speaking self-responsibly, and speaking only out of and about my personal experience.
3. I commit to listening non-judgmentally to myself and everyone else.
4. I commit to giving no praise, blame, or apologies, and searching for another response (appreciating and acknowledging).
5. I commit to welcoming differences and conflict as part of the process.
6. I commit that, when someone expresses a concern to me, rather than being defensive, I choose to be curious about what they are thinking and feeling and needing, and curious about how to create a win-win.

A Job
I've been "hired" as a long term volunteer at an ecovillage. I will be working from April to November this year. I will be working with one of the owners. She will be teaching me on how to do certain things on the farm and will be giving me work. I don't get paid but I do get room and board. I'm really excited for this opportunity! This will be a really good time for me to become more independent from my family and getting more work experience.

TV Shows
This month (January) I've started watching quite a few shows/new seasons of shows.
The Good Wife - Season 3
Grey's Anatomy - Season 1
Face Off - Season 6
Bitten - Season 1
I've also been keeping up with my regular shows; New Girl, The Big Bang Theory, How I Met Your Mother and Almost Human. I spend way to much time watching TV shows...
I'm going to make a list of all the shows I've watched and kept up with (not children's shows that would be going a bit to far). *This will be long and pointless*

That is all for now.
